CONSULTING

Expertise

Our core consultants have over 40 years of combined work experience in Southeast Asia in a number of different fields including journalism, the development sector, project monitoring and evaluation, political risk analysis, conflict management and mitigation, and environmental protection.

We speak Burmese, Thai, Mandarin, Malay and English. Our work has often taken us to some of the most remote and dangerous areas of the region. Through this, we have built up an extensive network of contacts, ranging from drug warlords in northern Burma to separatist insurgents in Southern Thailand to human traffickers in Cambodia. Some recent examples of our work include tracking animal and drug smuggling in Burma's Wa State, conflict resolution efforts in Southern Thailand and investigating activities of underground democracy activists in Vietnam.

One of our key geographical areas, where we have unique access and contacts, is Wa State, Burma, a peripheral region affected by a myriad of complex challenges. What are the drivers and social issues behind the poaching and smuggling of endangered species? Are recent efforts by local Wa leaders to replace opium crops with rubber plantations working? What is the relationship between recent economic development in Wa State and the upsurge of Mekong River piracy? These are the kind of topics we are actively engaged in through our tailored research projects and programmes.
